Week 9

Reflection on the presentation

We have done 30 illustration on Bee and 30 illustration on Chicken on a piece of Mahjong Paper. After doing the presentation , we realised that we have some improvement that can be make.

Here is the list on what we can improve on;

-Darken marker lines
- Add more colours
- Bigger drawings
- Add details to make objects more obvious
- Fill up empty spaces

Our next assignment is on "Why we ask Question?" and "How we ask Question?" . We have to type our answer down on the website called Twiddla. Here is the link.  http://www.twiddla.com/2294460

Below is the screenshots of my contribution on the website.

We are also told to list down series of question that I might want to ask .
Here is my list;

  1. Why must we do homework when home is the place for us to rest?
  2. Why must we have to clean up our bedroom during hari raya when the guest will only sit in the living room?
  3. Why we have to study algebra?
  4. Why there's must be class till late afternoon?
  5. Why we are not allowed to wear ankle socks in primary and secondary school?
Reflection

Do I ask enough question? & Do I think that I ask the right question?

I think that I didn't ask enough question because sometimes when the teachers gave assignment , I still didn't get it but refuse to us. And instead i will usually wait for my friends to ask our teacher the same question and eventually I get the answers from them. After I done some research on asking question, I think that it is really important to ask question because we get to improve on our works and also get to clear our doubts.

I also think that sometimes I didn't ask the right question which leads in getting different answer from teacher. To ask the right question, I have to think first what to ask to make sure people will understand what I was trying to ask. I also have to ask confidently.

Lateral Thinking- Week 7

People nowadays busy with their career. Especially the one who always work from morning till late night and the only time they have a rest is on their weekends. They have no time to clean up the house, sweep or vacuum the floor. As you know , hiring a maid to clean up the house is quite expensive especially in Singapore where you have to settle many bills. Now, there's this new invention called iRobot Roomba Vacuum. All you have to do is just press clean and Roomba will do all the hard work for you, freeing up your time to work on other things or simply enjoy your day. Even though there's vacuum cleaner , but you have to use your energy to clean the house but for Roomba, you can just let it do their work. The advantage of this is , there's no need for you to hunt for Roomba when the job is done. It will charges itself , returning to its Home Base. Roomba also cleans on your schedule you can just set the it.

Here I'm going to show you the process of doing our group work. This group work helped us on thinking something different. Something that is outside the box. We as a group also learn to illustrate something that is very interesting and at the same time having a lot of fun when doing this activity.

We have to illustrate 30 reasons on "What would you do to your neighbour's chicken which always wandering into your garden?" and "Why does the bee attracted to the painting of flower instead of the real flowers?"

We list down before illustrate
Focussing on our work

30 Illustration on bee
5 Interesting Points of the Bee:

-The bee have to use the maze to reach to the rose, and it's a lazy bee so the bee choose to go to the painting instead of the real rose.
-There's a lion with mouth open behind the rose (bee got scared)
-The bee's enemy protect the flower
-The area at the painting is brighter than the real rose
- The bee is an artistic bee

Week 6

 Mindset

When i'm doing my school work , my stationeries will be all over the place. Although i will get annoyed when I see the stuffs lying all over the place , I just continue do my work because I think that I could clean it up later. But, after doing the presentation on how to be creative , I learn that to be creative and to let the ideas flow out , you have to make sure the surroundings you sitting at is clean and neat. I think its really work because when i'm doing my work , I didn't think of how to clean up the mess later . So , its really change my mindset
Before
 After

The other thing that I learn is to think positive all the time. I always have the mindset that i cannot draw, but I really have to think positive because I know that if we try to do it , we can .

I did a research on best presentation on TED Talks. I watched one of this very interesting topic on "How to build your creative confidence" by David Kelley.

https://youtu.be/16p9YRF0l-g

He start of by showing a mind map on what to talk about during the presentation. Although its not colourful , I think the mind map is really useful for him to summarise on his topic.

So here he is talking about that some people fear of judgement. They scared that if you don't say the right creative thing, you're going to be judge.

He is saying about the words that was told by Dr. Bandura , a psychologist. You must have a confidence which is called as self-efficacy, the sense that you can change the world and that you can attain what you set out to do. He add on that we could take people who fear of not being creative to change it to familiarity , and they surprise themselves.

There's one guy who is a technical person, he designs medical imaging equipment. He get scared of not being creative after saw a girl crying as she scared of the MRI machine. He felt disappointed because before this time he was proud of what he did but he really hurt to see that the kids are scared of the machine. So after taking classes about design process and gain confidence , he redesign the machine make it much more interesting to children.

The new MRI design for children
Overall , i think it is important to make the presentation interesting by having a great story to share if you have one. It is also good to make the viewer laugh as not to make the presentation boring.

Here are the 10 Tips on how to have a good presentation:

1. Write A Script
-Make sure your script follows good storytelling conventions
-Have a clear arc that builds towards some sort of climax.

2. One thing a time
-Plan your presentation so just one new point is displayed at any given moment.
-Bullet points can be revealed one at a time as you reach them.

3. No Paragraphs
   -Use notecards
   -Use memory

4. Pay Attention to design
-Use decorative fonts only for slide headers, and then only if they’re easy to read.
-Use a sans serif font for body text.

5. Use images sparingly
-Use images only when they add important information or make an abstract point more concrete.

6. Think outside the screen
-Give some thought to your own presentation manner how you hold yourself, what you wear, how   you move around the room.

7. Have a hook
-Open with something surprising or intriguing, something that will get your audience to sit up and  take notice.

8. Ask questions
-Build tension by posing a question and letting your audience stew a moment before moving to the next slide with the answer.

9. Modulate
-Always speak as if you were speaking to a friend, not as if you are reading off of index cards.

10. Create a Worthy Leave-Behind
-Give them something to remember you by.
